Mega Whale found dead on Juhu beach in Mumbai

A 37-foot-long Whale was reported by TOI dead whale floating near the coast of Juhu beach. This is one of the biggest whales to be seen in and around the coast of Mumbai in recent times. Last year, a 42-foot-long Blue whale was stranded live at Revdanda beach, 17km from Alibaug in Raigad district," said Makrand Ghodke, assistant conservator of forests (mangrove cell), who was at the spot. The whale is 11.3 metres long or 37.07 feet. The exact cause of death is not known. Environmentalist and marine conservation expert felt that deep injury to the whale may be due to fishing trawler and therefore, suggested to put curbs and checks on the number of trawlers that rampantly move around near the coast, as dolphins, whales, turtles and sharks, among sea creatures, swim here. It is also stated that unsupervised release of sewage and other industrial effluents close to the shore is also likely to increase sea pollution, thereby affecting the marine ecosystem. Last year, eight dead dolphins were found around the city's coast.
